History

Zofija Vilytė (1927-1988), a history teacher, greatly contributed to museum founding. By her efforts lots of exhibits were collected and the thematic work was started. In 1962 the first exhibition was opened. In 1964 it was severe damaged by fire. In 1975 a new exhibition on the cultural and economical life, the history, the culture, the mode of life and the nature of the region was arranged. In 1989 the museum was reconstructed and the information renewed.

Exhibition

The exhibition on ethnography and archaelogy represents the life of a primitive community in the Dusetos region. There are photos of the mounds from Vozgėliai, Velikuškės, Betiškės, Skinaikiai, Narkyčiai, Stukakalnis and a collection of stone axes. There are parts of flint axes, some fragment of clay plates from the Vozgėliai mound, some brown alloy fragments. Some files on the region mounds, which the young ethnographicts prepared, also stories of old people, legends and excavations, which were carried out by the expedition, run by P. Tarasenka, an archeologist, in the Vozgėliai and Velikuškės mounds, present a wide panorama of the district.

The ethnographical exhibition presents belongings of peasants, household utensils and instruments of the XIX-XX century. The corner of a housewife presents a lot of utensils for dairy products, for honey, wicker baskets of all size for feeding peasants in the fields, a wooden bow and a wooden plate of the oak form. There are a lot of measures: widely used "bezmenas", pound for butter, many plates. There are instruments for flax process, patterns of painting, a dowry chest, ancient home made fabrics and national costumes of the end of the XIX century.

The exhibition on history presents information on participants of the revolts in 1831 and in 1863. There are a lot of photos of the town and the church. A separate stand is devoted to a horse race. There is an exhibition on the secondary school history during 1530-1940, its pupils and teachers.

On the second floor there is a space room with the pupils works on art.

 

The teacher Loreta Bugienė is responsible for the museum.

The secondary school of K. Būga is a founder of the museum.
