Petras Gaulė (1923-1993)

Petras Gaulė, a lyrical poet, was born in the Rokėnai in the Zarasai region.

In 1944 he graduated from the Zarasai secondary school.

In 1960 he graduated from the department of the Lithuanian language and literature of the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute.

He had been working for the newspapers, in the TV and radio committee.

He published two books for children "Rain bow"(1978), "Smile, not run away" (1981), and a book on poetry "I write a sweat heart name". There are three hundred songs on his poems, created by the composers: M. Vaitkevičius, B. Gorbulskis, V. Telksnys, G. Pauga, A. Raudonikis, V. Baumilas. The most popular songs are "Mother's waltz" "Apple tree", "Flowers of mountains", "Jurga, Jurgita", "Love and wait", "There is no twilight in my heart" and others.
